How we handle your personal data
Which personal data this website processes, why, and what your rights are.
Who is responsible
The controller responsible for processing personal data on this website is:
DARIAH ERIC
c/o CNRS – UAR3598 – Huma-Num
54 boulevard Raspail
75006 Paris
France
info@stardast.eu
DARIAH ERIC publishes this website on behalf of the STARDAST consortium.
Data Protection Officer: Arnaud Roi, arnaud.roi@dariah.eu
DARIAH ERIC runs this website and decides how personal data collected through it is used. The Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities (ACDH) hosts the website and operates the analytics and the mailing list database on behalf of DARIAH ERIC. The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), as coordinator of the STARDAST project, is responsible for the content of this website (see Imprint).
Hosting
This website is hosted by the Austrian Centre for Digital Humanities (ACDH) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, in Vienna, Austria.
When you visit the website, your browser sends technical information which is needed to deliver the pages to you: your IP address, the date and time of the request, the address of the requested page, the address of the page you came from, and your browser and operating system. We process this information to provide the website and to keep it secure, which is our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
This information is stored in server logs, which are deleted after 90 days.
Cookies
The public website does not set cookies, and does not store any other information in your browser. Fonts and images are served from our own server. Apart from the analytics service described below, no content is loaded from other websites.
Links to the websites of our partners and to LinkedIn are ordinary links: those websites only receive information about you if you follow a link.
Analytics
To understand how the website is used, we use Matomo, an open-source analytics service, run by ACDH on its own servers at matomo.acdh.oeaw.ac.at. Your data is not shared with third parties.
Matomo records:
the pages you visit, and when
the page you came from
links to other websites and downloads you click
your browser, operating system, device type, and screen resolution
your approximate location, derived from your IP address
Matomo runs without cookies. Returning visitors are only recognised within the same day, by a hash of e.g. their IP address and browser. Search terms you enter in the site search are recorded, together with the number of results, so that we can see what visitors are looking for.
IP addresses are anonymised before they are stored. Data about individual visits is deleted after five years. After that, only aggregated statistics are kept, which cannot be related to individual visitors.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the website and reporting on its use (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Mailing list
If you subscribe to our mailing list, we store your first name, last name, email address, and – if you provide it – your institution. We use this information only to send you the STARDAST mailing list. It is stored in a database run by ACDH. Your data is only accessible to DARIAH ERIC, ACDH, and STARDAST consortium partners.
The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw your consent and unsubscribe at any time with the link at the end of every email we send, or by writing to info@stardast.eu. We keep your data until you unsubscribe.
Editors
This section only concerns members of the project team who edit the website's content. Editors sign in with their GitHub account, which is processed by GitHub, Inc. in the United States. The transfer is based on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, under which GitHub, Inc. is certified (Art. 45 GDPR).
When an editor signs in, we read their GitHub username and name. The sign-in is kept in a cookie for 12 hours, and a second cookie is used for up to 10 minutes during sign-in. Both are strictly necessary to provide the editing interface.
Changes are saved in a public GitHub repository, DARIAH-ERIC/stardast-website, with the editor's name and GitHub no-reply address as the author – not their email address.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Where processing is based on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time, without affecting the processing before. To exercise these rights, please write to info@stardast.eu or to our data protection officer, Arnaud Roi (arnaud.roi@dariah.eu).
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state where you live or work. The authority responsible for DARIAH ERIC is the French data protection authority:
Commission Nationale de l'Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL)
3 place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715
75334 Paris Cedex 07

Other project activities
This policy only covers this website. Personal data processed in other STARDAST activities, such as recruitment, mentoring, training, and cascading grants, is handled by the partner organisations involved and is covered by their own privacy information.
